SMT Reorder Process Overview
Last updated on Jan 08, 2026
Thank you for your continued support of JLCPCB.
In many cases, placing a reorder allows you to move your project forward more quickly while reducing overall costs.
Below, we outline the three most common reorder scenarios for PCBA orders at JLCPCB, along with important supplementary notes.
After an order is completed, you can find the Reorder button in your Order History.
Scenario 1: Direct Reorder
You may place a direct reorder if all of the following conditions are met:
- No changes are required (manufacturing files, parameters, options, etc.)
- All components used in the original order are sufficiently in stock
In this case, please follow the steps below:
1. Click Reorder, select the original order, and confirm any applicable customization options.
2. Quantity adjustments are supported. After adjusting the quantity, if no system prompt appears, click “Reorder” and the order will be added to your cart.
3. Select the reordered item in the cart and proceed with the normal payment process.
(To ensure a smooth reorder, please complete payment as soon as possible.)
Notes on Stored Stencils / Fixtures
1. If the original order included stencil or fixture storage, the system will automatically reuse the stored stencil/fixture.
2. The storage retention period for the stencil/fixture will be automatically extended.
3. If the reorder quantity is increased, the system will automatically calculate the required number of stencils/fixtures. If additional stencils are needed and the original order included stored fixtures, only the price difference will be charged.
4. For any reorder not classified as a direct reorder, stored stencils/fixtures will not be reused automatically. This is because the system cannot determine whether design changes affect stencil data. To ensure product correctness, the system disables reuse of previous stencil data by default in such cases.
Scenario 2: Reorder Converts to a New Order
Even if no changes are intended, the system may notify you that the reorder will be converted into a new order under the following conditions:
1. The order quantity exceeds the limit of an Economy order, and is converted into a Standard order.
2. Component inventory is insufficient, requiring conversion to a new order.
- Option 1: Click “OK”: You will be guided to the component matching page, where you can select alternative components or choose partial assembly, then continue the order process.
- Option 2: Click “Cancel”: Prepare sufficient components as instructed, then initiate the reorder again once materials are ready.
Scenario 3: Reorder Used to Shorten the Ordering Process (With Modifications Required)
If modifications to the original order are required, but you wish to use the reorder function to reduce setup time:
3.1 Recommended Approach
Download the Selected Part List and place a new order directly.
Note: This approach is also recommended if you encounter issues during reordering, such as failure to generate preview images or inability to add the order to the cart.
3.2 Alternative Method
Click Reorder to add the order to the cart, then click Edit Order.
(In this case, the system will treat the order as a new order.)
Additional Notes
1. In certain cases, the Reorder function may be unavailable. If issues that could lead to manufacturing defects or errors were identified during engineering data preparation or production, reordering may be disabled. In such cases, we typically notify you of the reason via email.
2. Please note that during reordering, DFM data will be regenerated and reconfirmed. In rare cases, this may result in differences in component orientation compared to the original order—usually due to non-standard or ambiguous design markings that lead to engineering interpretation differences. We recommend carefully reviewing and confirming component orientation.
3. Based on the point above, once you confirm the production files, DFM confirmation is required for both new orders and reorders. Please monitor your order status closely and confirm the production files promptly to avoid delays.
The above information outlines the standard reorder scenarios.
