How to Set up Shortage Preference?
Last updated on Jun 03, 2026
JLCPCB normally delivers the full PCB quantity ordered. However, for some projects, customers may not require the exact quantity and are willing to accept a small production shortage if there is any. To provide greater flexibility, we offer the Shortage Preference option.
Available Options:
Require Full Quantity: This is the default option. If any shortage occurs during PCB production, we will automatically remake the missing pieces and ship the exact ordered quantity.
Accept Shortages: You can set a maximum allowed shortage. When shortage occurs and if the actual shortage is within this limit, we ship as is and refund the missing pieces. If it exceeds the limit, we will remake the missing pieces.
Additional Build Time for Remakes:
1–2 layer boards: additional 1–2 days
Multilayer boards: additional 2–4 days
Notes:
1. Panelized Orders
The allowed shortage quantity is based on the PCB delivery format. For panelized orders, the quantity refers to the number of panels.
2. Quantity adjustment in shopping cart
If you modify the order quantity directly in the shopping cart, your previous "Max Allowed Shortage" setting will be retained. No reset is required unless the current "Max Allowed Shortage" is no longer applicable to the updated order quantity.
You can also update this setting as you want by clicking “Edit Order” in the shopping cart.
3. Reorders
For reorder items, the default setting is “Require Full Quantity”.
To change this setting, first add the reorder item to your shopping cart, then click “Edit Order” to update the shortage preference.
4. PCBA orders
If the PCBA quantity equals the PCB quantity, only “Require Full Quantity” is available.
If the PCBA quantity is less than the PCB quantity, the “Accept Shortages” option becomes available, allowing you to define the allowed PCB shortage quantity. In this case, the Max Allowed Shortage must be less than (PCB quantity − PCBA quantity).
